Sib. 7.0: Sibelius 7 video crash problems Posted by Peter Roos - 01 Oct 02:25AM (edited 01 Oct 02:26AM) Hide picture Good evening:While trying to load a score I created in Sibelius 6, I received an error message: "This video file cannot be played by any of the installed codecs. Please refer to Sibelius Reference for more information." The score plays back ok otherwise. The Reference does not contain any more information, but after searching the forum I found that the issue might be related to Quicktime not being a 32 bit app and a recommendation for K-Lite Codec Pack 64 bit which I installed (after uninstalling another codec, ffmpeg). When trying to load the same score, Sibelius 7 crashes and I get this error message:Problem signature: Problem Event Name:APPCRASH Application Name:Sibelius.exe Application Version:7.0.2.8 Application Timestamp:4e4ee17b Fault Module Name:StackHash_24c1 Fault Module Version:6.0.6002.18005 Fault Module Timestamp:49e0421d Exception Code:c0000374 Exception Offset:00000000000aef37 OS Version:6.0.6002.2.2.0.256.1 Locale ID:1033 Additional Information 1:24c1 Additional Information 2:e24d9aedaf385fa6de9a9b90982271d7 Additional Information 3:8b14 Additional Information 4:1b2a13b5c0adf2e63dab59e77b8dae01It won't restart, I have to go the Start Task Manager to force kill Sibelius. Trying to restart the same score after reboot doesn't help, get the same error message.Since the only change was the installation of the K-Lite codecs, I uninstalled that and reinstalled ffmpeg and guess what, no more crashes. Unfortunately it also means no more video.Does anyone have any insight into what is going on here, and perhaps alternative video codecs recommendations? Thanks!ps The same score still loads fine in Sibelius 6 (including video playback).pps Forgot to mention, this happens on a windows vista ultimate 64 bit laptop computer, core i7 processor, 12 GB RAM, 3 hard drives (two in RAID 0 array).-- Peter Rooswww.summeroflovemusic.comIMDb: www.imdb.com/name/nm2039241 Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 7.0: Sibelius 7 video crash problems Posted by Daniel Spreadbury - 01 Oct 12:47PM Hide picture Try uninstalling the K-Lite codec pack and then running Sibelius 7 in 32-bit mode: does the score work okay when using the 32-bit version?-- Contact Sibelius technical help online: Contact Sibelius technical help by phone (charges may apply):USA & Canada: +1 650-731-6106UK: +44 (0)20 7561 7997Australia: 1300 652 172Other countries: www.sibelius.com/support Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 7.0: Sibelius 7 video crash problems Posted by Peter Roos - 01 Oct 06:54PM Hide picture Hi Daniel:Didn't even know that Sibelius 7 could run in 32 bit mode as well - that is really clever.Yes, it plays back fine in 32 bit mode, including video. So it has to be something specifically related to Sibelius running in 64 bit mode.ps It is interesting that video playback in Reaper 64 bit is sketchy too - sometimes it works, but more often than not it doesn't (video freezes on first frame) and I have to use the 32 bit version of the software. I've been trying to understand why that is so (I'm not the only person who has experienced issues with video in 64 bit mode) but I haven't figured it out yet. -- Peter Rooswww.summeroflovemusic.comIMDb: www.imdb.com/name/nm2039241 Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 7.0: Sibelius 7 video crash problems Posted by Roy Moore - 01 Oct 07:13PM (edited 01 Oct 07:16PM) Hide picture Several discussions on here since release of Sib 7, for example: -bin/helpcenter/chat/chat.pl?com=thread&start=555120&groupid=3&words=codecs&name=Search forum for 'codecs' you'll see more.-- Roy MooreSib 7.0.2,Windows 7 SP 1 pro x64 8gb ram,2x quad core 2.5ghz ,Audiophile 2496, JABB 3, GPO 4, Rock & Pop, Garritan Steinway, EWQLSO platinumLaptop: Sib 6 XPpro x32 SP3 4gb ram 2 core 2.ghz Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 7.0: Sibelius 7 video crash problems Posted by Daniel Spreadbury - 01 Oct 07:46PM Hide picture I think the problem is related to the 64-bit video codecs, Peter, not specifically to Sibelius. I'm afraid I don't know which codecs are more likely to be stable in 64-bit, but probably sticking to a format that Windows supports natively (some form of WMV or AVI, perhaps) is likely to be more successful.-- Contact Sibelius technical help online: Contact Sibelius technical help by phone (charges may apply):USA & Canada: +1 650-731-6106UK: +44 (0)20 7561 7997Australia: 1300 652 172Other countries: www.sibelius.com/support Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 7.0: Sibelius 7 video crash problems Posted by Peter Roos - 02 Oct 12:15AM Hide picture Thanks for the feedback - wmv files play back fine, so indeed it seems to be an issue of not having the right codecs. Quicktime for windows is a 32 bit application as far as I know, so in a 32 bit application it plays back ok but not in a 64 bit application. The codecs referenced in the thread Roy pointed to (K-Lite) make Sibelius crash, so that doesn't really work for me. Well, I can also convert the movie clips to a WMV format, or alternatively work with the 32 bit version of Sibelius.-- Peter Rooswww.summeroflovemusic.comIMDb: www.imdb.com/name/nm2039241 Back to top Allthreads
